Each person's needs will be different. In my case, .Net is the direction we're going. IMO, at this point in time, Java or .Net is better for a large corporate environment than OpenSores.
>One should also be open to look beyond .NET as well. Java/Oracle is typically more accepted at large corporations than C#/SQL Server. Python/Perl/Ruby on PostGreSQL/MySQL are free open source alternatives. For very large data volumes (billions of rows of data) one should consider SAS or Teradata.
