Yes - I did that. I found it best to use the sample VB program or a good modem stream capture program to capture the rs232 stream to text file, and then simply filter and import the data with VFP.
I think I had the terminal emulation program restarting at midnight and the VFP app running shortly thereafter.
This methodology turned out to be best in lots of ways - three were some tricky modem settings that were not so easy to control from VFP like stop bits and such, and the system was self-correcting for power failures and unexpected reboots.
