>Your appearant simplistic view on the matter does not give the impression you have understood why illegals currently more or less are tollerated. Of course reality always is a bit more complex, and different political and economical forces go into the matter.

Having grown up in a city where illegals are very much tolerated, I have a pretty firm idea of the why's and wherefore's of the situation. You are chosing to interpret one reply - made in haste, I will say here - as indicative of my understanding of the situation. This has been a pattern in all of the discussions we've had here.

>Well I did not mean to say that it depended on one event. There were three election where a Bush ("Read my lips, no more taxes") was choosen. Not to mention elections for congress. Kidding aside, it really is part of the american culture and history. American people have choosen for this through its entire history. And as I said before, its economy relies on it.

Now who's being simplistic here? Our economy rests on no such thing. You are connecting two unrelated ideas. There may be a large gap between rich and poor, but this is not (a) anything we've tried to encourage, or (b) anything we've conciously done. Your hatred of Bush is coloring your attitude regarding the US, and it does you no credit.

>Have you any idea what it means to be a socialist? Do you know the distinction between a socialist and a democratic social? I'm about as far right in holland as you can get (If you go more to the right you'll get into racism). You don't know anything about our political system, a system where a liberal is to the right of anything else (except racistic parties). Yes, I'm considered at the political right in holland.

I really, really find that hard to believe. You can hide behind any label you want, but your statement sounded like something I have heard socialists say. It is also patently false. Yes, if you only compare the absolute tops and bottoms of our society, there is a huge distinction. But that is true in almost all societies.

For your reading enjoyment: Social Structure of the US. And you might find this interesting.

>Maybe with a few exceptions, the rich are rich by inheritance, leaving the rest with no reachable american dream, with no hope on improvements. Often those are 2nd and 3rd world countries. I'm sure you would not want to compare those countries to a 1st world US, would you ?

First, a little correction here: we are 2nd world, the "new world". Europe is 1st world.

Second, you are generalizing again. Yes, there is a degree of inherited upper class in third-world countries. However there is also a large degree of wealth by other means. Oil profits, connections, drugs, legitimate businesses, you name it. There's more to the upper class in these countries than you think. In fact, a lot of them (at least from South and Central America) come to Houston to shop.

I have put all the time and effort into this discussion that I care to.
