When it comes to accents, I think that Percy Kilbride who played in Ma and Pa Kettle movies, sounded like he was from Maine. He was actually from San Francisco. Each neighborhood of San Francisco had an accent and you could tell where a person was from by his/her accent. Most accents were from the east coast – Maine, Massachusetts, and New York being represented in the areas South of Market in the City. My grandfather sounded like he was from Boston, and my mom had a New York accent. Today many residents of those once Irish Catholic neighborhoods cannot speak English.
Alan Alda has an accent I cannot place. In fact his accent is very different from his fathers. Did you know that Alan Alda had Polio as a child?
