>>>The Funk Brothers. :)

>>Bingo! For anyone out there who is saying, "What the hell??!!? Who the &*^%*& are the Funk Brothers?" The Funk Brothers were the Motown house band. They backed Aretha, Marvin, The Temptations, The Supremes, Gladys Knight, etc, etc. If you have a chance to get hold of a DVD called "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", it's worth it. They were all Detroit jazz musicians that Berry Gordy (who founded Motown) gathered up and contracted into [all but] slave labour. James Jamerson was the bass player - respected by every other musician who knows who he is as the genius who created that whole Motown back beat. Dazzling bass lines. When Motown had its 25th anniversary gala and had all the front liners there to celebrate, Jamerson had to buy a ticket from a scalper and sit in the balcony.

>>There is also a book by the same name.

>awwww... how many number one hits did they have?
>Paul Whiteman Orchestra and Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians each had a whopping 32 number one hits. Someone told me that Bing Crosby (not a group) had 41 of them.

I don't know the exact number but Elvis had 30, the Beatles had 17, I think, so just those 2 added together are more than any of the three you mentioned. I suppose if you have the statistics, all you need to do is to add up all the number 1 hits that came out of Motown.
