It was a tall, blonde guy with thinning hair who played him in the series. Or am I switching them? Loretta Switt in the TV series (don't think she did anything but plastic surgery after)? - can't remember the film - or vice versa?

Trapper on TV was Wayne Rogers. He left after about the 3rd season and was replaced by Mike Farrell as BJ Hunnicutt. Loretta Swit was Hot Lips on TV; I think it was Sally Kellerman in the movie.
