Terry,
Try following settings. It solved my problem to the great extend.
Open C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT. Add FILES=80 and BUFFERS=80 at the bottom. In the properties of your application icon, go to Memory page. Set all values to auto.
