It all depends on perspective, I would think. If you're a Bosnian who lost your family because UN Peacekeepers were ordered to let the slaughter continue, not much. If you're one of the hundreds of thousands, if not more, who have been kept alive by Unesco and UN Relief, then you think they're great. Most interestingly, the historical evidence now indicates that despite the graft and corruption, the UN embargo of Saddam Hussein was in fact effective: he did not have an effective chemical weapons program, not to mention not having any nuclear program, and that was directly due to the embargo.

As for Iran being on the disarmament commission, there's an Arab saying that goes something like "better to have your enemy in your tent."
