It does make for "good politics". :)

I remember the Korean War for many reasons. MacArthur, promised Americans on Thanksgiving of 1950 that their sons would be home for Christmas. I remember when Eisenhower ran against Stevenson. Eisenhower promised the mothers of America that their sons would be back by Christmas if he were elected. Eisenhower delivered on his promise.
