They are similar. They compile practically to the same. It is a matter of preference.
If you learn one you can easily be conversant in the other later. The importance and difficulty is not in the language but in the framework.

Don't know. Our shop uses C# even though I come from VFP (still use it) and our web guys come from
VBS/ASP. We all prefer C# to VB. Is it better? No. Just a preference.

That is not so. VB.NET has not been around a lot longer than C#.
Don't confuse VB with VB.NET as they are not the same, just as C# is not C++
