>>>I had to drive 3 hours from my home today. I spent the majority of the time listening to some interesting programs on public radio. Today there was a discussion on the Koran. It was very interesting.

>>>The speakers were Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Professor of Islamic Studies, George Washington University and Imam Yahya Hendi, Chaplain, Georgetown University

>>And if ever you wanted proof that the USA doesn't discriminate against muslims, here you have a Professor of Islamic Studies, in the most patriotic sounding of universities, etc.

>How do you mean that? I don't know how much overt discrimination there is but there is no question a lot of profiling goes on. I am as "guilty" as the next person there. Unless and until Islamic terrorism abates (no time soon, I'm afraid) and unless and until the vast majority of terrorists are not young, single Muslim men, I think it's entirely reasonable to profile.

This was 1st thing this am. I think I was saying to Metin or US bashers that the US is a tolerant nation, allowing and nurturing other religions, despite the horrors of 9/11.

>Put it this way. Let's say you're a sheep rancher. And let's say the vast majority of wolves have never eaten a sheep in their lives, which is probably true. If you see a wolf sitting on the other side of your fence, aren't you going to wonder whether he's thinking of eating your sheep? Whereas a dog or a horse would not be considered a threat.

Got no argument against that. In fact, last week I think I was saying that the US has good reason to be "paranoid", when vetting muslims entering the country, which you jumped on as perjorative, when it wasn't meant that way. People can be both paranoid and right about it. Your sheep farmer might say "I don't like shooting such beautiful animals but I'm paranoid he's after my sheep".

AAMOF, the sheep farmer in the UK, given the lack of wolves, probably WOULD be concerned with the salivating dog watching his flock. Sheep "worrying" is a common fact with town dogs.
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
