Formsets were looking really close to what people were doing with Foundation Read in FPD/FPW, which was a very roundabout way to have an event loop without actually having an event loop. So they were included in VFP3.0 to make some people feel at home.

Now that they're in the base set of classes, there's no good way to pull them out without causing a lot of grief to the (my guesstimate) 0.5% of Foxers who use them.

For the rest of us, the reason to use them is to learn about them just the way you did.
