But then you don't have to watch out for wrong meanings that may become an obstacle between you and your listener.

I actually stumbled upon this problem when I was doing some translations - trying to use the best word available quite often meant I had to use the fourth best, because the first three had primary meanings which would give the sentence a completely wrong meaning. I'm not translating anymore, but if I ever have to do that again, I'll copy the examples and present them here.
