Outside of Charlotte would not be too bad, but the metro area is a disaster to live and drive in. Greensboro/High Point is my personal preference. I like the schools there and the area as well. It is about 1.5 hours to drive to Charlotte from Greensboro (depending on which side of the city you are leaving and going to) so attending a user group may be an option periodically even from there!

I have grown accustomed to it after 15 years here but there are a few days when it seems unbearable and we hit the pool or lake as much as possible (or shopping). Then there are those days when there is no power for air conditioning due to power outages from hurricanes... I wouldn't trade it for the months of snow I endured living in Wisconsin
