However, in testing the application I found that if I attempted to create files on a network drive (Novell 3.12) that doesn't support long files names, an error was generated. Is there a way to determine if a specific drive will support long file names?

John,

You can add OS2 Name Spaces to a Novell 3.12 environment and it will support long file names. I'm running it on my server at work.

As far as testing a file - why not just create a bogus file before creating the rest of them. Test the actual name against the file created. If it isn't the same, test for the Dos equivalent and work from there. I'm sure there are other ways, but this is a quick workaround.
