>I am working on a project that was created by another developer. I am trying to build an exe for the first time and am getting an error message re: a vcx file: 'is in use and cannot be recompiled'. I exit VFP and come back in...still in use. I reboot the computer and go into VFP and the class file (custom class) is still in use.

Do you have a Project Hook associated with the project? If the PH is also included in the list of files in the project, you will get this error. The PH does not have to in the list of files, only referenced in the Build Info dialog. Remove it from the list and try rebuilding.
