Yes but it all sounds a bit "I'm alright, Jack". You or your parents had, say, political or economic reasons to be allowed in but take some poor Mexican who only has his calloused hands and you'd turn your back on him. It's like me denouncing the practice of allowing S. Irish into England after the Partition. I wouldn't be English.
