On the day of the rallies I was at my boss's house for a meeting. He lives in Dupage County, which is sort of the local headquarters of Reagan Republicans / Bush Republicans. We went to lunch at a nearby restaurant and on the way out I scanned the headlines of the dozen or so newspapers for sale in those coin-operated vending machines. All the headlines were about the rallies, focusing on the 400,000 at Grant Park in downtown Chicago. The one that caught my attention was the Naperville Sun: "The Day the Lawns Weren't Mowed." Regardless of where you stand on the immigration issue, I thought that was unbelievably crass.
