Mike,
Is The Wizard still in business?I believe he is! And yes he did use to claim he would row 200 miles offshore to avoid the census. Those were the days when his enemies in the McGillicuddy Serious Party stood for parliament proposing a great leap backwards into medieval serfdom to save NZ from the evils of the world- see
http://www.answers.com/topic/mcgillicuddy-serious-party . They proposed replacing money with chocolate fish, promised to limit the speed of light to 100km/h and managed to enter a goat into a local body election before being narrowly preventing from achieving the same with a hedgehog.
But the whole world is becoming a much more important and serious place, so that sort of fun is now regarded as inappropriate and horribly un-PC. Such is life.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
