I was convinced it would be possible to use the binary formatter, but this explains the fact that I don't find any documentation on the subject.
I want to use the binary formatter because the data I send over the wire is encrypted which can cause invalid XML. Remoting would be an option, but I don't know if my client aggrees with this approach.

>ASMX always communicates using SOAP and XmlFormatting. If you want binary responses look into .NET Remoting which also can run through IIS but requires different setups.
