>>One thing that REALLY bugs me lately is: "Interest rates have gone up by one half of a percentage point"

>Among the words missing in English I have listed "promile". Just as "pro centum" is the Latin for "percent", so is "pro milla" (or whatever the spelling is) for "promile", which is 1/1000. I can't find the word in my desktop dictionary, which is weird. Everyone back home knows the word, because your blood alcohol level is expressed in promiles.

Surely we just use "per mililitre" or "per mil'". As in the US they don't use sensible measures (except in medicine?) this expression hasn't found its way into common parlance.

>Another lost word is "now". It's become "at this time", which most often can be translated back to "". An example is "...has no comment at this time". As if they'd care to have one later.

"Johnny, you come in the house right at this time!" Nah! that doesn't work. It's just the gobsh*tes who use "at this time", and the worst: "at this moment in time" (but we've well discussed this in the pastr, even to the extent of there being a moment in space, in physics-speak) :-)

- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
