I was going to suggest using transparent shape over the calendar and detect clicks, but I think it's probably not worth it.

I defined ToolTipText for the Container class. For testing, I made container a little bigger than the OLECalendar contained in it. When I used the container in my form, I see the tooltip when the mouse on the empty in the container around the calendar, but no tooltip is displayed when the mouse is on the calendar.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
