I've got boys, so sneakers and a pair of black dress shoes was the entire shoe wardrobe. I eventually convinced each of them to get something in between (DockSider-type) to wear with khakis when sneakers were inappropriate.

OTOH, my 3 1/2 year niece has about 5 pairs of shoes just for the spring/summer and my sister is trying to decide whether she needs one more.
