Josh,

I don't think it would be odd at all!

Win95 seems to serve adequately for countless needs in a SMALL environment. If you want/need BIG environment, then there are other options, including, notably, NT.

My concern was the unequivocal statement that Win95 is not meant to be a server of *any* kind. At least one respondent was taking this literally. I've got to believe that there are tons of offices with 2-6 processors using Win95 networks and VFP or other tools of similar ability (ie not just Word or Excel).

Cheers,

Jim N

>I would say that Win '95 peer-to-peer networking is really designed to allow people to share files like Word docs and spreadsheets and share printers. It's really not designed for heavy duty networking like databases. It would be really odd if Win '95 handled this will since MS sells NT Server for about 5 times the price.

>>I wonder why MS gave Win95 that ability to do it if it "wasn't really meqnt to be used as an application server"???
>>And would that still be your opinion if the person trying to do so said that they *DID* run nothing else of consequence on the machine acting as "server"?

>>Your statement is kinda like saying that a SUV is not really meant for off-road use. They are promoted as being so-capable, and I would bet that a certain percentage of owners *do* use them that way, even if most do not. Are those people wrong???

>>>As a quick follow-up, Win 95 wasn't really meant to be used as an application server, which is what you are trying to do.
