I gave up my 1986 VW Golf Diesel with about 750,000Km on it (about 470,000 miles). My friend Lynn finally gave up her VW Jetta at about 500,000Km.

I'm convinced my Golf would have run forever because the engine was still in very good shape, and I've heard that if a car gets to that kind of mileage, it'll go on and on. Unfortunately the body was starting to disintegrate around me. It couldn't have passed another safety test, so...
But I'm sticking with VW.
