I agree with you developing your own framework gives you a lot of flexibility, but time and manpower is a reason why we decided to buy a commercial framework. We have a lot of existing customers who need our support and they are constantly demanding new enhancement to the system. We decided we are going to stop any enhancement until the transaction is done, but that means we need to make the transaction as quickly as possible or we are going to loose the customers we have.

I have my own framework, it has had one major revision so far, I guess I can call it version 2 it is about 50% of the way to being 3-tier and the next revision will be full 3-tier. Time consuming but fun and definitely worth it, you have total control and learn a lot about framework design and what works best for the type of projects that you're doing.
