>Does anyone know why a REPLACE done in a workarea other than the one selected does not always work? How do you correct the problem without selecting the target workarea first?
Mark,
In versions prior to VFP there is no way to insure your request. The REPLACE command is scoped and its default scope is NEXT 1, in the CURRENTLY SELECTED WORK AREA. If you have no table open or the table that is open is at EOF then your replace will not update the other work area.
In versions prior to VFP I always left the alias off the replace field so it would error on me if I hadn't selected the proper work are first.
VFP added the IN
option to the REPLACE command that eliminated the problem.
