Wanting to move forward in my FoxPro experience...
Well, I've been using FoxPro for about three years now, and have a fairly firm grasp on the basics. Currently, my office runs Visual FoxPro 5.0, has 5 networked computers, and runs most of its marketing, payroll, ar/ap, and sales info through FoxPro. Now I'm running to walls, big and small, that start to puzzle me. Being only self-taught, I do not have any formal FoxPro experience, so some of this may be simple problems, but they're confusing the heck out of me.
1) Client to server operations. Where could I learn more about this? Currently, I've only worked with a client to client network, with only mimicked servers. Where can I get more hands-on info in views, SQL, etc?
2) What other program languages should I learn to compliment my FoxPro experience? I've had my hands in Visual Basic and C++... Is this what I should go for? I don't enjoy VB much, but if that's what I should use, then that's what I should use.
3) I've heard a little about the concept of having a table that has no real "live-data" holding purpose, but just to reference other table's keys (or something like that)? Could anyone explain this concept a little more in detail?
4) Is there any way to get rid of the _screen object, and have just your own top-level forms that you produced? I don't like the sloppy solution of just moving the screen to an invalid x/y coordinate, and wrapping the _screen object around the app makes the cancel button (in the top right corner) and the menus difficult to handle. Any suggestions?
