I went to see "United 93" with my daughters a couple of weekends ago. One of the things I admired about it was the terrorists were not presented as ogres but as sincere believers in a cause. The opening scene is of two of them praying for strength. They are not presented as sympathetic figures, just human beings.

Please don't take that the wrong way. I consider their cause despicable. That said, I liked it that the movie treated them as humans and not stereotypes.

The most powerful thing about the movie IMO was knowing the outcome in advance. All these people boarding an ordinary airplane flight, just a nice Tuesday morning at the end of summer, and you know every one of them is going to die.

There was absolute silence on the way out of the theater. The last time I remember experiencing that was "Schindler's List."
