The new diesel engines are nice. They are as quiet as gas engines, and they burn cleaner than gas. Plus, you can run biodiesel in them too if you want to give the environment a real gift (and your wallet a beating).

I heard mixed stories about VW gasoline cars, but only praises fr diesels.
IIRC UBC here runs all its maintenance fleet (lawnmowers, etc.) on bio - they collect used cooking oil from restaurants or cantinas on the campus, and filter it.
