This at least gives me some hope that what I want to do can be, done.

Once I have a clearer mental picture of what it's going to take to emulate the current program (it is very efficient and easy for user to do very complex tasks, but it has all the limits and frailties for FPD), I'm sure I will need some outside help to at least formulate the plan and get a jump start..
