Some differences have to be learned. For instance, arrays are treated differently, although the basic syntax (I think) is the same - but yes, the idea is that it is very similar.
As was said in other places, the main problem, of course, in learning .NET, is not the language (C# vs. VB, or some other languages), but learning the framework or base classes.
