Hi Everyone:

I have 2 possibly simple (and related) questions which I haven’t done anything to solve since I’ve started using foxpro.

1. I’ve created an accounting program (more like a data entry program considering my limited foxpro skills). I’ve come up with a problem when I want to split a transaction between two different companies or people. For example, I’d have an invoice in which a portion of it is attributable to one of our clients, and the remainder is attributable to a different client. Currently, all I do is have separate fields that holds the client id, therefore I know which clients are involved in the transaction. However, that does nothing to provide me with the percentages/amounts per client. When I come to year end and want to find out the invoices attributable to each client, it becomes tricky and I have to manually go back and do the math.

I’m thinking that the way to do this would be to have a separate logical field to say that the entry is “split”, and then have an amount field for each client id that gets entered. Is there a better way to do this? This also leads to my second question:

2. In the above case, I would have to have fields for each potential client and their portion of the transaction. Therefore, if I anticipate that a transaction could be split between 5 different clients, then I would need 5 fields to hold the client id, and 5 fields to hold the amount for each client. That in this case is not difficult to do, but in other programs I can see where a similar situation might have transactions split between many more than 5 clients. Is there a different way to do this then having a separate field for each potential split in the transaction? Or is this the way that this is done?

Thanks for any advice/suggestions!

Paul
