Exciting times here--9 in a row and lots of home games this month. Wish I'd gone last night--what a great game. After their 9-14 start, I really thought it was over for them.
What's encouraging is that their starting pitching has been strong in this streak. I also think the Aaron Rowland deal is going to go down as one of the better trades. If you subscribe to the theory that a single game can make a difference (given that the Phils lost by 1 game last year).....that catch he made against the Mets last week could very well be the difference this year. That's wasn't just a game-saver...it might have been a SEASON saver.
When this streak started, I wasn't all that impressed, because they were beating lowly teams. But after taking 5 of 6 from the Mets and Reds, this team might actually be for real. The media practically has a Bobby Abreu-to-the-Yankees deal sewn up, but I'd hate to see them lose his bat. Having said that, the Phils pinch hitting has been abysmal (I think their team PH avg is .180)....and pinch-hitting is critical during the pennant race.
But thankfully, the Phils are now playing meaningful games!
