Hell’s Angeles are nothing more than a group of people who like to ride motorcycles. They started in California after World War II and have contributed much to the culture and society of our state as well as many other countries.

Growing up in San Francisco I remember the many newspaper articles and local stories about the exploits of Hells Angeles. Sonny Barger was in the news very often. Sonny is a true credit to society.

Hollister, California is a favorite meeting place for the members of the motorcycle club and they like to meet on July 4th. I made the mistake of driving through Hollister one July 4th with my family, not knowing about the “event”. That is the last time I will do that!

You might have enjoyed the gathering of thousands of Hells Angeles that day. There was a Garrison size (huge) Confederate flag flying high. Hollister is another world about 75 miles south east of San Francisco.

When I was in the Air Force we had a guy who was a Hells Angel and rode a Harley. He wore short boots with a 38 revolver inside the left boot and a knife inside the right boot when he was off duty, and needless to say he wore his Hells Angels leather jacket. Nice guy actually. Just “different”.
