I prefer to use it because when I see it in code there is a better chance that I'll remember what ID() means than me remembering what SYS(0) means. I once wrote a tight little function using several SYS() functions. Later when I had to modify some of that code, I had to spend quite a bit of time in the help file trying to decifer what I had done. Since then, I try to use alternatives to the SYS() functions whenever possible (and ID() is an excellent example of that) and I also document my code much better. ;)

Ok, that's valid reason. However, I guess I leave our current function intact, but will keep this new function in mind.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
