The grammar is the same, and 99% of the words are the same. The politicians can invent differences and force the languages to diverge all they want, the people will still be able to understand each other.
Funny thing happened when, trying to prove that it's a separate language, they published a schoolbook for it. Then it was discovered that it's actually a plagiarized Serbian schoolbook, with all mentions of Belgrade replaced with Sarajevo, dialect switched from ekavian to iyekavian, and names switched from Zoran and Miroslava to Mehmed and Fatima :).
