As far as I know, VFP6 doesn't have the problem. I'd assume later versions of VFP will be the same. By the way, one of the things I recall about FPW was that as long as you set the OVERLAY, TMPFILES, PROGWORK, SORTWORK, and EDITWORK to somewhere on the C: drive you usually didn't have a problem (and yep, I did have projects hosted on the D: drive).
