In IIS
the 'default SMTP Virtual Server' has "stopped" to the right and more puzzling,
a red X to its left. It will not start or restart, saying service is not running.

HOWEVER, ComputerManagement->Services and Applications->Services
SMTP *is* running.

Tried restarting the service and even rebooting, no change in performance.
Then I did an uninstall of IIS and reinstall of IIS (sp4) - same thing. FTP and 'WWW' do work but the SMTP is still stuck on nothing doing. I even tried changing the port from 25 to 2525.

This was working for many months (if not years) , the Drop directory is still there, nothing is showing up in the Event Viewer logs pertaining to SMTP at all.

Any ideas out there?
