I didn't understand that you wanted to run the scanning software on the local computer via a terminal session. In that case, this scenario won't work for you. What we do is the user on the local computer (where-ever it is) runs the scanning software on the local computer. On the local computer with the scanner, he has a VPN session open with the terminal server which then maps the local drive on the workstation with the scanner where the scanned documents are stored. There is also a table created which holds documents ids for each file scanned. When he is finished scanning documents, he runs an app (vfp app which does nothing except move the files and update any required links in tables on the terminal server) via the vpn session which grabs those files from his local computer and moves them to the correct location on the terminal server and steps through the table on the local computer and updates the master table with the new documents location and link id from the temporary table on the local computer created during the scanning process. The records in the temporary table on the local computer are then deleted and the documents as well once the new location is verified. The 2nd app mentioned above which is run in the vpn session moves the scanned documents and creates a link id in the main app's files for each document that was moved onto the terminal server so the documents are now linked to the correct profile (record) in the main app on the terminal server. There are in essence three apps: the main app on the terminal server (the end location for access to the scanned documents), the scanning app on the local machine, and the upload app on the terminal server run via the vpn session on the local scanning machine. For those sites that have the scanning machine located on the same lan as the terminal server (or file server which runs the main app) there are only 2 apps - the scanning app and the main app - no middle upload app is needed.

>Sorry if you think I am being obtuse, but what you just suggested sounds impractical and I have just tried it out on my computer.

>MyComputer XP --> Terminalservices --> VPN to MyComputer XP - to run scanning software? Using VPN you can transfer the files from Local to TS but what about controlling the actual scanner on the local computer? For that you must then run a Terminal Service session on the Local Computer from within which will then lock you out of the Original TS session and so forth.

>Somewhat of a vic1ous circle it appears.

>>You are right of course. Still, it can be done if the Terminal Server is configured to accept VPN clients. If a local machine is setup as the scanner (as ours is) running the scanning software and a VPN session is started between the TS and the scanner workstation then the files can be moved over to the TS server. That is how we do it in locations where the scanner workstation cannot be located in the local lan where the TS is located.

>>>He is talking about a Terminal Services Environment and you are talking about a local computer.
>>>
>>>Correct me if I am wrong but what Thomas wants is to runn a scanning app that will be located on the LOCAL computer from a VFP app running IN the Terminal Service Session.
>>>
>>>We are using WIN2003 TS and there is NO support for anything other than COM ports. Most modern scanners sit off the USB port and the drivers will be loaded on the local computer. Thus what Thomas is looking for is an app that he can activate from within his TS session.
>>>
>>>I have need for Webcam Photos to be taken of members and stored as ID. This has to happen at the local computer since that is where the webcam is plugged into. However the user however is running my main app from within a TS session from that same computer. Thus in effect a click of the "Photo" button on the screen has to reach outside the TS session and run the webcam on the local computer.
>>>
>>>The way I do it is with this utility:
>>>
>>>http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/psexec.html
>>>
>>>which allows me to run an app on the local computer from within my TS session. On the local computer is installed another small VFP app that activates the camera and after the photo is taken, the image is saved and the app closes.
>>>
>>>PSEXEC allows me to run any app from within the TS session. There are some issues with permissions but these can be overcome.
>>>
>>>You may need to look into the links Tracy mentioned since you WILL need to have a scanning app installed on the local computer.
>>>
>>>I just use the Free EZTWAIN.DLL to scan in the documents and the GPIIMAGE.PRG from Alexander Golovlev to split a Multi doc tiff file if the user needs to view.
>>>
>>>Try this out and if you have any other problems drop me a line at gdalbr at hotmail dot com and I will help you.
