Is there a way to connect to an instance (using a named instance) to find out what the "default" data directory is? MSDE it was easy to find the data folder for a named instance because the folder contained the instance name but in SQL Express it is cryptic (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\Data).

Any information would be appreciated.
