I have an application that generates word document (report) without using Word automation. What I did was that I created a set of CSS (style sheet) elments to format the HTML document (report). Then name the file extension with ".DOC" as opposed to ".HTM" or ".HTML"; then when the user double-clicks on the file through Explorer, the file opens up in Word naturally.
