Kim,

>Working with Grids in VFP is weak compared to PowerBuilders datawindows and grids are the cause of much of my dislike of VFP. Another instance where VFP grieves me is when I run the grid builder. Many times I've had it totally scramble my Column Headings.

Grids are not that bad, once you understand them. Drew Speedie had a great session on grids at the Devcon. The problems you are having with columns getting unset, etc. are easily surmountable. If you can get with someone who went to devcona and saw his session, you will probably find out all the info you need.

There are some enhancements to the Grids in 5.0, but 3.0b can easily address the problems you have posted here.

If you can identify the specific issues you have and the version of VFP you are using, I will tell you the way to solve that particular problem.

As to why VFP works the way it does, there are a number of reasons which make sense. Doesn't mean I think that it should work that way by default, but there are some good reasons for the behaviour.

I just got back from Devcon, but I will be leaving shortly for Wash. DC, so I don't know how soon I can get back to you. Should be back sometime after Comdex.

Anyway, take care,

Fletcher
