>>>My wife and I were driving home last night and at 6:06 PM the news on the radio was discussing the importance of 666 – or 6-06-2006. Why did the announcer make a point to let us know it was 6:06? Ha!
>>>
>>>Well the world is still here or at least I think I think so. What was missing from all the radio, television and newspaper news yesterday that I came in contact with was the Anniversary of June 6, 1944 D-Day. I guess the devil makes better news.

>>
>>Exactly. It was the main issue Ed Schultz had yesterday with the media in his radio program (Audio: Today marks the 62nd Anniversary of DDay).
>>
>>It is unconscionable that the media talks about stupid numerology instead of paying homage and remembrance to what hundreds of thousands of 19 and 20 year olds did. Instead, most of today's people stayed home and did not vote in the primaries. Given a choice most of these 20 year olds would have preferred to stay home and vote instead of having to cross the channel to fight in France.
>>
>>Today's youth discussed the 666 stupid issue instead of getting off their buts for an hour and voting.

>My son and I voted yesterday. Would you believe that what I voted for won? Man - that is a first! I have not missed an election in 43 years of voting. Voting to me is my passive right of revolution! :)

I certainly agree with the sentiment. The right to vote in free elections is one of the things that makes this country what it is, and one I would fight to defend. But in a realistic sense going out to vote is one of the dumbest possible uses of our time. I am speaking here of national elections (including Congress) and most governorships. Tamar and I have gone around about this in the past and she correctly points out that we do have an opportunity to have an influence in local elections. But for President, Congress, or most Governor seats? Fuggedaboudit. Most of those seats are safe in the extreme. And even in close elections, like the last two Presidential go-rounds, the votes of most of us don't mean squat. The 10 or so contested states determine the winner. The rest of us, rationally speaking, would not be hindering the democratic process by staying home.
