I remember I read a Craig Boyd's post using double buffering to smooth screen painting, I can not remember it, I did a quick search and I found this article, I am not sure if it is the one, but I am sure that if you check Craig's blog and this article you might be able to do what you want, I searched for "Double buffer" in Craig's site to get this link
