Thanks Terry - I believe that you are right and that there will have to be a field in the select for this. I am just enhancing the reports for an application developed by a third party, so I didn't know if this might be possible within the report designer.

For instance, I had tried setting up a report variable, then updating it whenever the header record changes. Then I used that variable to determine whether to print the background or not. Sounded good, but unfortnunately didn't work :o)
