Putty was one of my first thoughts too, but I have never done a 'script' file... Not even 100% sure what it is :) (my guess is that it is a batch file of some kind). Could you point me to some good learning tools?

What this application does (at least the FTP part) is check a folder on a server ervery n minutes for the existence of a certain number of a certain type of file. Once found, the files are downloaded. This is a daily process. I suppose a script can be written to do this?
