1 and 2 are all fine, but they don't fix the problem. Now I think it is a problem in VFP. I moved the database container into the root and kept all the tables in the subdirectory. That solved the problem.

In the article 229779 mentioned below, it states this error message happened as early as in VFP 3.0. I'm using VFP 9 with SP1. Using the resolutions presented in the article, the problem cannot be solved. I'm surprised and wonder whether I had missed something.
