Ok, I'm stuggling for many more ideas now but check out this site:

I think Message 2 is the same as you have.

Did you name the SQL instance when you installed it or did you just allow the default.

Can you confirm the MSSQLServer service is running, check through Admin Tools - Services. What is the value in the path to executable, right click and properties of the service.
