>>I'm almost reluctant, but I'd have to advise you to drop the diet pop. Evidence is starting to appear about some pretty bad consequences of those sweeteners. Sorry. ;-) That'll be the next diet darling - soda water rather than pop.

>>Really??? Tell me more - I regularly drink Diet Cherry Vanilla versions of Diet Dr. Pepper and Diet Coke. I think both have nutrasweet. The only thing I ever recall reading about those were that pregnant women needed to be careful about consuming too much of them. Are there other problems?

>Nutrasweet is a commercial name for aspartame, which you can google out for yourself. It creates extra methanol in your blood, while impeding your natural defenses against it. You get methanol when eating fruit, but there are other things in most of the fruit that neutralize it; with aspartame, in the long run, your chances of wearing glasses before time are increasing.

>And Monsanto keeps sticking to their old results of testing, when they were using a method which can't detect the above-normal amounts of methanol in blood. They don't really care that there are better methods developed since.

>I've had an online friend back home who had web access a couple of years before the rest of us (probably academic network) and he was bringing articles to the BBS regularly - so I knew about this some ten to fifteen years ago.

BGH (bovine growth hormone) is, I think, another Monsanto creation banned in many countries yet still in use (and approved by the FDA) in the U.S.
And people say the government is "for the people".
